People are bored with muscles: Akashdeep Saigal

Akashdeep Saigal Today there is hardly any K-series fan who doesn't know Akashdeep Saigal. He is the perfect prototype of a TV soap villain. And he loves playing those roles. "Negative roles excite me and they are more challenging than playing the role of a chocolate hero," he quips. Meet Akashdeep Saigal who is ready to rock you with his grooves in the new dance show Jhalak Dikhlaja.

Dancing to success
I work out regularly for an hour at the gym at Grand Hyatt. Other than that I do dance exercises. That's rocking! It's one hour of non-stop dance like aerobics. It helps to strengthen your abs and tighten your body along with the flexibility. I 'm also learning salsa now.

Also, I think, I'm lucky to be a part of the mega dance show Jhalak Dikhlaja. This reality show has been a success in different countries and now the producers of Kaun Banega Crorepati  have brought it to India. I got to learn different types of dances like cha cha cha, disco, salsa. I was a pathetic dancer but now I'm learning and trying my best to compete with all the other contestants.

Gen-X mantra
Working out for a fit body can never be a fad. It is a very important part of grooming your life. In our profession we always challenge time. We don't get time to sleep and it is bound to affect our health. But what gives us energy is regular exercise. Having a fit body is very important in our profession.
I love myself and my body. There was a time when I used to yearn for a body like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone but now I don't think like that. Now the lean look is in. People are bored with muscles. Gen X loves a trim and well-toned body.

Vegetarian delight
I am not a proverbial foodie. I eat to survive and anything that satisfies my hunger is okay for me. I do not have a passion for trying out different types of cuisines. Since I am a vegetarian, I prefer simple food like yellow dal  and gobi bhaji. My favourite drink is milk. Also I don't follow a three-course meal routine. My food habit is extremely flexible and changes from day-to-day but the contents remain more or less the same like muesli or porridge with milk, juices and dry fruits. I do not eat roti  or chawal  everyday, may be only once a week!

Sweet corner
I am a big fan of sweets. It's not that I have sweets everyday but I always have all the prasad  at home. We have Ganapati at home and everyone knows that no one can touch the modaks  except me! I have never followed a strict diet but now I'm seriously thinking of starting it because I'm having too many modaks  these days!(laughs)

Kitchen rules
My mother was a very good cook but now she is too old to enter the kitchen and my sister in-law has taken over. After her I am the greatest cook. I make quick meals like soups and noodles. I am extremely good at making corn bhaji. I don't follow a rule book in the kitchen neither do I have the time to experiment with different recipe books. I just pick some masalas  that I find before me and make my dishes tasty. I always take special care to garnish the dishes. They should look nice too or else I don't feel like eating. From my appearance to my food everything should be visually appealing.

No looking back
I used to hang out a lot with friends but now-a-days I don't get time. When I find some time I prefer to visit their homes and spend quality time by catching up on each other's life. Earlier, I used to have a lot of junk food like samosas  and vada pav  but now-a-days I avoid them. But I don't miss those days. Each day is different and I prefer to live in the present and enjoy it!
