Single and happy: Tanuja Chandra
So you mean pyaar ka laddoo is like shaadi ka laddoo? Jo khaye woh pachtaye... jo na khaye woh bhi pachtaye!
Pyaar ka laddoo to itna bada, mota aur hard laddoo hai that it hits us on our head and we fall down (laughs)! Being in love is not just fun... it’s a lot of pain too.
With love, heart-break comes as a package deal. Have you had your share of heart-breaks?
Sure. Many people may not separate or break up, they may stay together but that doesn't mean hearts are not broken. There is a certain phase of deep attraction, which eventually gets over. There is a phase of love, which gets over. Then we enter into a phase, which is boredom and that's when hearts are broken. Because you believed in the first place that love was supposed to last forever. Your relationship with your offspring may be selfless but when it comes to a man-woman relationship it is give and take.
How do you deal with your heart-break?
Like anybody else... we feel sad, we cry... we pretend that we are not sad, we pretend that everything is alright. Mostly I keep everything to myself. I am not a very open person to share it with anyone. I am very private, by nature.
Do you share it with your family - with siblings, maybe?
We are quite a close-knit family - I and my sister are especially close and always there for each other. But still, we don't really discuss problems of such nature.
What does marriage mean to you?
Marriage as an institution means a lot. It is sharing many things. It is like running an office. You have common goals and you continuously try to achieve them together. But when the goals change then it comes to a conflict. Marriage, I am convinced, is not an easy thing to deal with. All relationships need to be worked upon but marriage often has a lot of violence in it and it has a lot of immoral things in it... but because it is a marriage it has the sanction of the society. A man can betray his wife but often he cannot betray his mistress! If I find someone I fall in love with I would want marriage because to tell you the truth, I love children. I want to have children and that's the main reason I’ll get married... after that I will dump him (laughs out loud)!
When are you planning to tie the knot?
As soon as I find someone suitable. I am not against it but arranged marriage is not for me. I feel that's really absurd. I can only marry someone I love and am very close to. So it will happen when it has to... I can't force it to happen. If I find somebody then I will marry, but if I don't find anyone, I won't feel guilty about it. Marriage is not destiny... it is a chemistry between two people.
