Shutterbug
I was always focused and knew that I didn't want to struggle for a long time in my career. I would always come up with new ideas to shoot. My career started with a shoot that I did with Shah Rukh Khan for a magazine, Star and Style. It was one of my first few shoots; earlier I had shot Chandrachur Singh. Everything fell into place; I must say that God was very kind.
Que sera sera...
Somebody's loss is somebody's gain. I believe there was some other photographer who was supposed to shoot Shah Rukh but he had to back off last minute for some reasons. The magazine could not take any other established photographer at the last minute so they had to put faith in a newcomer. It was God's favour on my life that I was called and the shoot went well.
Prior to this I was helping my dad in our family business having studied business management. Though I was a management student, I was doing things, which were not even remotely creative.
Grace period
My family had reservations about my photography initially, but by and large, it was alright. It didn't go to a point where I had to fight for it or prove a point... I just explained to my dad about my choice of career and assured him that if I don't make a market for myself in a year's time then I would return to the family business. In that one year, I wanted to see if I could do something with my life, create a niche for myself and not walk the path my dad paved.
God's favour
Every bit of my journey has been sheer God's favour. I say this because I know when I walked into this industry there were ten other photographers who were far more talented than me, even today there are 50 more talented photographers trying to make it big, who have far more energy and zeal, who have all that it takes. I think while success is being in the right place at the right time, it is also living under God's favour. It's very important that what you make out of your life is in sync with what God wants you to do. Then, of course, you will see a lot of success in your life!
Starry-eyed
Lot of people think that I shoot better with a particular actor or actress but it's not so. I like to shoot with everyone and anyone who is willing to experiment and gives a liberty to try out new things. That makes it fun.
Sushmita (Sen) is a great friend; she is focussed and clear how she wants to project herself... how she wants to shoot and she is willing to experiment within the framework. Same thing goes for Hrithik (Roshan), Aftab (Shivdasani), Vivek (Oberoi) and Abhishek (Bachchan).
