Sikandar Kher: Getting Set To Go

He also admires his mother for sacrificing most of her career prospects so that she could concentrate on him. "She could have done a lot more films otherwise," he states simply. "And my mom is no cute mother - she is the cutest mother. Let me tell you also that the one you are closest to also disciplines you the most!"
And what has dad taught him about acting and a career?
"I did do a workshop with him as an actor," says Sikandar. "But the most important thing is that he told me that an actor could never lie down and visualize how he could do a scene or a role. He made me learn that what sounds fantastic in your imagination may not work up there with the camera. You have to actually go up there and do it."
Sikandar has four films in his bag, but is superstitious about letting on till the films or their official announcements get rolling. "I do not also know how the schedules will go. I have not yet worked on more than one film at a time."
Is he into any relationship - the grapevine has suggested liaisons? "Let me know who I am seeing!" he jokes, as he adds, "No, I am not seeing anyone, which of course does not mean that I do not like girls! It's just that one has to give a certain priority to the girl, and if I cannot do that because of work, it's unfair on her. And if I do take care of that, I will be unfair to my profession, which is my first priority today."
Sikandar says that he was no great student but was super at sports, be it basketball (in which he once represented Maharashtra), cricket or anything else. But why is he not a six-pack-abs man? 'Well I have got about two-and-a-half to three packs, and I think that I am happy with them,' he quips.
Sikandar's deep bond with Abhishek Bachchan is a byword in film circles, though he is okay with other star-kids too. "There were recent rumours that we had turned foes," he smiles. "But the best answer to that came when Aishwarya Rai Bachchan came and launched the music of Summer Of 2007." And just for the record, it was Apoorva Lakhia (whom he met through Abhishek) who recommended his name to Sanjay Gupta for Woodstock Villa. After all, what are buddies of buddies for?
