Ritesh Deshmukh
On women, money, love and the good life!
|
"Money is important for a good life but you cannot buy love with it, " believes Ritesh Deshmukh, one of Bollywood's busiest Badshahs. If films are meant to be a medium of entertainment, then Ritesh Deshmukh is doing complete justice to it with his Bluffmaster, Malamaal Weekly and Apna Sapna Money Money. And of course, he is not tired of all the Masti (read comedy) in his career, though he is ready to experiment with different genres with Cash (action) and Hey Baby (family entertainer) awaiting release.

In most of your films you play a happy-go-lucky character. Do you identify yourself with such roles?
Till now I have not played a character with whom I could identify myself completely. However, since all the films were realistic, you tend to identify yourself with some traits of the characters while there are some traits you can't identify yourself with. You fantasise some of it...something which you have always wanted to be, while there are some parts which you would not be able to fit into. It's a mixed basket always and we are bound to play them and do justice to the character as the script demands it!
In Apna Sapna Money Money you have played a woman's role. How did you feel in 'her' skin?
Embarrassed and self conscious as any other guy would feel. And probably I wouldn't like to go into such makeovers in my career again.
After being 'her' skin, could you tell what are the difficulties that today's women face?
We all have our share of difficulties. I agree being a woman in a man's world would be difficult but I can not point out the problems she faces. Moreover, today it is no more a man's world. Women are equally important in society and they are equally competent today. So I think that there should be no difficulty and if she faces any she is strong enough to put an end to it. Probably soon there will be a day when a woman will take over the role of a man.
So how important is money for the Malamaal star?
Money is important for a good life but you cannot buy love with it.
Do you believe that everyone should fall in love at least once?
I don't think everyone should fall in love...I think everyone does fall in love at least once in a lifetime. Of course I too have fallen in love, but it is strictly personal and I would not like to discuss it.
What are your thoughts on marriage?
I believe it is a strong binding force and gives rise to strong families and strong values. It also insures a secured future for children as against the ones who are brought up in broken families. Hence I respect it as a social institution.
Would you opt for live-in before marriage?
No...I'm slightly orthodox when it comes to marriage. Marriage is a process after which you start living with another person. I am not going to the ethical part of it...but if I love someone I would want to get married first and then start a life together.
What are the qualities you would look for in your partner?
I don't think I would look for qualities in a woman before falling in love. I believe that if two people can gel well then they can fall in love and spend the rest of their lives together.
When not acting, how do you spend your time?
I like to chill out with friends.
If Ritesh was not an actor he would have been?
An architect. I have studied architecture and was the first person in my family to join films. Of course, my family never forced me in my career plans and have supported me through out.
