Chilling out with Rimi Sen
|
How did you make your way to Bollywood?
I had to start working early to support my family. In Kolkata, after college, I was into modeling and was doing petty assignments for a very nominal sum of money but then I made up my mind to come to Mumbai because there was very little scope in Kolkata. I put up in a PG in Mumbai but success was not easy. I did not know anyone here and went knocking the doors for screen tests and modeling assignments. It was frustrating at times when I had no work and often thought of going back to Kolkata. But my perseverance paid off and I did 16-17 ad films till Priyadarshan sir noticed me in the Coke ad with Aamir Khan. After that Priyadarshan sir launched me in his film Hungama.
You love?
I love money and have a weakness for cars. For me spending money on clothes, jewellery or accessories is like an investment that you have to make in the world of showbiz, but other than that I don't have any fascination for them. I have known the hard life so I use my money very judiciously.
Who's your favourite co-star?
Salman Khan. He is a very good and honest guy. I don't know why media goes crazily after him. But we had a wonderful time working together, playing pranks and pulling each other's legs. I cherish those moments even today.
Any Bollywod actress you admire?
I love Sridevi, Kajol, Preity and Rani. I really admire Rani for her struggle to success. She is a very nice person and has worked very hard to reach the position she has achieved today.
Your advice for young aspiring actors?
Mumbai does not disappoint any one. This is why I love this city so much. But at the same time they should remember that success in Bollywood is not easy. They should wait patiently for the right offer. Do not haste and sign some B or C grade film out of desperation because then it is very difficult to do A/ A+ movies. Once you are labeled as a B/C grade actress big banner would be wary of signing you up for their production. They always prefer fresh faces with clean track records. Before Dhoom I had to wait for 1 year without any work. Always understand that if fame comes early it goes off early.
