Mynah by Renu Tandon

Renu Tandon does not need an introduction today. The capital's fashion fraternity knows just where to knock for creativity that stands class apart. The person behind the brand Mynah now stands tall as she provides her creations not just in India but also in Singapore, Dubai and Los Angeles.
Wills India Fashion Week 2007 witnessed models exhibiting the fine taste of Renu's Summer-Spring collection. Soft colours formed the base for Renu, perfectly matching the trend this season. Her collection complimented top models of the fashion industry from Carol Gracias to Krishna Somani and Neha Kapur.
Soniya Mehra walked the ramp for Renu wearing a beautiful cream ballroom dress. Soniya is the daughter of the late film star Vinod Mehra and has recently made her debut as the female lead of Victoria 203.
It was an assembly of dazzling fashion apparel for just about every woman.
She used a lot of silhouettes and embroideries, all in whites and cream. The necklines ranged from high collars to plunging. The collection is chic, hip and completely in vogue. These clothes are the season's must-wear. We spoke to the designer and her actor-turned-model Soniya.
What colours have you used this season?
Renu Tandon: Whites, creams, dew… all the colours you see when you wake up in the morning. My collection is titled Mynah and that is what these colours signify.
What fabrics have been used?
RT: Chiffons, nets and georgettes.
What is your inspiration?
RT: Inspired by the Mynah, my collection asks you to rise and shine. So it is inspired from the colours that you see early in the morning.
What kind of trade are you looking at?
RT: I'm basically targeting Indians because they are present all over the world. I already have clients from the Middle East and Saudi Arabia and have been doing ballroom dresses for them. So I thought why not show it in India. I just had a show in Singapore where ball dresses are appreciated a lot.
How did you get Soniya Mehra to walk the ramp for you?
RT: Soniya for me is just a child and now she has grown into a beautiful woman. I have a family back in London and Soniya was studying there. Over the last few months we have been meeting a lot so I had her in mind and designed the dress accordingly. And she's looking gorgeous.
Soniya, how do you feel about walking the ramp?
Soniya Mehra: It was exciting and I am thanking Renu that she has given me this wonderful opportunity. All the big actresses walk the ramp and I have just started. So it feels great. I feel like a princess in this dress.
