My son is my top-most priority, Mini Mathur
She's been a VJ, television host, an anchor and also a mother. The charming hostess of the Indian Idol show on Sony television, Mini Mathur clearly knows her priorities. Work when she's shooting and family when she's home.
Married for seven years to documentary film maker Kabir Khan, very few people know that Mini has a two and a half year old son.
In a candid interview to shaaditimes she shares her thoughts on family, career and relationships.
From being a model to a popular VJ, a successful anchor and a gorgeous mother, what keeps you going?
It's just the drive to fulfill yourself in every aspect. It gives you fulfillment and peace of mind. I think women today can achieve what they want and they are capable enough to balance a full-fledged career, motherhood and marriage.
Indian Idol was the turning point of your career. How was the whole experience?
Indian Idol was a great learning experience. It was enlightening to hear the stories of the people who participated in it. So, it was quite an emotionally exhaustive show. We shared the stress, the energy, the emotions and all that the participants went through.
Whatever I've learned on this show has been greater than my past shows in terms of learning and enrichment.
How do you balance home and career?
I think the most important thing is prioritizing. It's very important to set your priorities right and know what is important and when. For instance when I'm shooting, my priority is to get my lines and the shot right and when I'm at home, family is my priority. I also take care not to mix both of them.
As far as work is concerned I've decided that I cannot work for 31 days a month as my son is very small right now and needs me more than anything else. That is the main reason for me to do shows and not serials as serials drain in a lot of your time and energy.
Fortunately, by God's grace I'm doing two major shows on television, one is Indian Idol which is in it's second season now and the other one is Popcorn on Zoom.
Besides that I have a wonderful husband and great in-laws, who look after my son when I'm shooting. Being in the same profession, my husband understands the stress and time constraints. They've all been a big support.
You've been married for 7 years now, what according to you are the important ingredients of a relationship?
I think the most important and essential ingredient is the bond of friendship which comes above everything else. If you are the best of friends you'll stick together, come what may.
And that's what has helped us as a couple. We've been through everything together, shared everything with each other and still are the best of friends even after so many years.
How important it is to seek each other's advice?
Very important. I don't do anything without consulting him and neither does he. I think there are many things which you need to speak and discuss with somebody. You want to speak your mind and then want to know how would that help you in the future. There are times when you are completely muzzled and don't know what to do and I think by talking it out to your partner, you get a very clear perspective of the situation.
