"I have a competition with God..."
Mahesh Bhatt
|
Does he regret any of the decision he's made in his life and with his relationship with Parveen Babi?
"I live in the given moment. Always have and always will. I have no regrets. I think we all wish we could change that burning agony which conquers our best or our worst side," says Bhatt and then continues, "I am the architect of my own life. The captain of my own ship who never looks back and I don't try and pigeon-hole human emotions. You have to have lived a life first before you can intellectualize it. And hope is seen through art. Art you have to remember is a lie. It is an exaggeration of the truth. I think through my movies that hope is instilled in the viewers as they leave the theatre. In Zakhm we are left with hope, dignity and courage. In Woh Lamhe it's the miracle in realizing that loneliness is an immensely destructive force which disconnects us from the external love."
The one quality he admires in women
"The courage to stand. It is a tough world and we all have to walk it alone. For women I think its that much more difficult."
What attracts him
"I am attracted to a strong woman. A woman who is not frightened to touch the depths of her inner being and beam it to her man."
The best advice
"Don't take or give advice."
On his art
"Life does not end. But films do, and with them the lives and thoughts and dreams we have shared for so short and magical a time. The moment you become happy the shadow of pain lingers above you. Learn to know yourself and learn to live."
On God
"I have a competition with God. Some may say it's a Pygmalion complex to create people and push them to make them their best. To make them touch their own potential and in the process learn more about themselves their inner most desires, thoughts and dreams. To make them believe in themselves. To show them triumph and give them wings to conquer greater visions."
