Kunal Kapoor high with World Cup fever
|
The World Cup fever is on and Milan Luthria's Hattrick will add in fuel to the fire. Starring Nana Patekar, Nasseruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal, Kunal Kapoor and Rimi Sen, the film is scheduled to merge with the World Cup spirit.
On the set of the title track, it was more of fun and madness at Kamalistan studio. True to the Brokeback Mountains style, Kunal looked hot in his cowboy jacket, cap, boots and tucked white shirt. More his relaxed self in his personal van, he hits off with a shaaditimes exclusive interview.
Would you watch the World Cup?
I love cricket and always cheer for Sachin Tendulkar. Most probably this will be his last World Cup and I would be hurraying for him all the way. In fact all my patriotic fervours come to the forefront when an Indo-Pak cricket match is going live on TV. So no way I would miss the World Cup, specially the matches India will play. I hope my film also inspires the Indian Cricket team and boosts their spirit. Cheers!
Tell us a bit about the film Hattrick.
The film revolves around cricket but it is not only about cricket. There are relationships and other issues and one common thread that runs throughout the film is cricket. The film opens with the onset of Cricket World Cup 2007 and finishes with the triumph of the characters, which is simultaneous with Indian team's triumph in the World Cup. As the Indian team moves ahead in the World Cup, the characters in the story move on with their lives, realise their faults and rectify them to finally turn out winners. Here cricket is used as a metaphor for life. Life is like a cricket game where you score a hattrick at times and sometimes you lose a wicket. And you have to manage spinners, googlies and bouncers on your way too. I play this rich Punjabi boy who is a bit rowdy and a cricket freak. I am cast opposite Rimi Sen. Sorry I can't reveal more.
Do you believe that the Indian team can win the cup?
It's a game so you can't predict. But yes we have all the potential to win the cup. We have a strong team and I'm very optimistic about their performance. We just need to lend all our support for them.
So how is life after Rang de Basanti?
RDB has made a world of difference for me. Today people recognise me and that is very gratifying. It is especially nice when people stop by and compliment me for my work. But I believe that one minute fame does not last. You just do not have enough time to sit back and bask in the fame. You have to work harder next time to meet the rising expectation. Always remember that there is only on week between two Fridays and your luck may twist.
What made you sign this film?
This is the first movie after RDB. I found the script and my role very interesting. My role in Hattrik is very different from the one I played in RDB. In fact, both the characters are diametrically opposite. Rang De's Aslam was composed, mature and serious much beyond his years while Sabby here is a spoilt Punjabi cowboy. He is loud, childish, fun loving and way below his years. I have not played this type of character before.
So how is Kunal in real life?
Kunal is neither Aslam nor Sabby in real life. But yes, I can identify a part of both of them.
How was your struggle to the limelight?
I dreamt of being an actor since childhood. But since I did not have a family background in Bollywood, it was not very easy to get a break. I started working quite early and had my share of ups and downs. Before films I had tried my hands at a lot many other things like the stock market, printing and dyeing company, in an export business, a greeting card company and also as a production assistant in ad films!!! Finally Meenaxi happened.
