John Abraham gets personal! Speaks on his love and life
His masculine looks and bare bod already had many women drooling over him. And then, he 'vroomed' into our hearts with his hot-bike act in 'Dhoom', the largest blockbuster of 2004. And with a sensational role in 'Kaal', John Abraham has certainly set his eyes on the no.1 spot in Bollywood. In an exclusive interview with Shaaditimes, he speaks about his latest flick 'Kaal', lady love Bipasha, his life and marriage plans...
First of all, tell me about your movie 'Kaal'.
'Kaal' is a very credible project. Firstly, because it involves Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan, who are the biggest names in the industry, and secondly due to its association with National Geographic channel.
The whole concept of the movie is a little different. Also, it's the first directorial venture of Soham, who gave a very good script and solid story. I think Soham has done a damn good job of interweaving the tiger conservation message into the film. It was a once in a lifetime role for me.
What is your character in the movie?
I really liked my role especially because I play a National Geographic Researcher. My character in the movie is Krish, who is on a mission to find out the strange happenings at the Jim Corbett Park.
Being an animal lover, I really liked Soham's idea of getting the National Geographic Channel involved with this. I think he has done a damn good job. And being a part of such a credible and educative cause was definitely a lifetime opportunity. Also, I think it is a great opportunity to let the kids know about tigers and their conservation.
So, how was it shooting with real tigers? Were you scared?
Not at all! First of all, most of the shooting of 'Kaal' was done in Thailand as we were not allowed to shoot in India. It was an amazing experience. I loved the tigers out there and they were very, very sweet. They were the same tigers who were in the movie 'Gladiator'.
In fact, I found that the tigers were treated better than us. They were not chained, were allowed to roam about free and were given good food.
'Jism' and 'Dhoom' established you as an actor. So, how does it feel to be 'the hottest guy in Bollywood'?
See, 'Jism' gave me a sexy tag, but post 'Dhoom' I've got a complete new audience, which I never thought I would get, and they are the kids. Believe me, with 'Dhoom' I 've got so many kids who love me and admire me. In fact, I just met a man some days back who said his 6-year-old son admired me and wants to be like me. So, it's been great. Certainly it feels nice when people appreciate your work and like your performance. As an actor it's very important to be appreciated. So, it feels good to be appreciated.
You have the greatest body in Tinsel town. What are your fitness secrets?
See, the biggest thing is that I think fit and therefore, I stay fit. I work out religiously, which is about twice a week in the gym. Apart from that I am a complete veg though I eat fish occasionally. Plus I don't drink... so I guess that's what helps me stay fit.
You recently bought a house in Bandra, Mumbai. So, are there any plans of settling down?
Yes, I got a new house in Bandra but it was just a mere business proposition. I don't know what made people think that I am getting married and settling down. In fact, I've already given it on rent for three years.
And as far as settling down is concerned, there are no plans on the cards as yet. I think I should enjoy my days in the sun!
What about marriage? Do you believe in the institution of marriage?
Yeah! I definitely believe in the institution of marriage. But I also believe that you should only get married when you are completely ready for it. It needs time and commitment from both the partners. It should be properly planned. Otherwise, it could be disastrous and the whole thing goes for a toss. So, I definitely believe in marriage. But I would get married only when I am prepared for it.
And what about live-in relationships?
See, everybody has his / her own life and it's their personal decision to do whatever they want to do. Each one has his own way of living. So, I think there's no problem with it. It's my life and I am free to do whatever I want to. I don't think it's anybody else's business.
What kind of a relationship you share with Bipasha?
Bipasha is a very independent woman. I respect her for being so honest and straightforward. She is a good human being and a great friend.
We have a very special relationship. She is a great support. More than love, I respect Bipasha. I would be very happy to marry the woman I love and respect. But right now both of us are concentrating on our respective careers.
What is the biggest quality you like about her?
I think she is a very strong woman, someone who has a mind of her own. She is extremely supportive and I really, really admire her honesty.
