Hari Puttar: Zany Zain Khan
|
On being a teenager, an actor and girls!
When he's not filming Zain Khan - India's Macaulay Culkin (Home Alone) is busy chasing maidens, enjoying movies with his buds, chilling with music and malls and mostly studying. The current heartthrob is preparing for his 10th standard exams at Mumbai's prestigious Manikji Cooper School.
Shaaditimes caught up with the teenage heartthrob upon the release of his forthcoming movie Hari Puttar - A Comedy of Terror. We had a zany time with Zain as he comically divulged his take on life as a Generation Nexer, tomorrow's Bollywood superstar, dirt bike racing and just being a normal teenager. Oh yeah, we talked about girls too!
Upon meeting the new age superstar one notices his exuberance, sincerity and mischievousness immediately. His humor gravitates and his wit and intelligence endearingly display a serious side to the youngster that goes beyond his age of sixteen.
Zain has a certain savoir faire with both media, and his audience that is inexplicable. You know that indefinable chemistry that separates the stars from the ordinary. Also not to mention his increasing contingent of girl admirers which seems to be burgeoning after the momentum of the release of the film?
Has the scrutiny changed him perhaps at school?
"Yes and no," admits Zain sheepishly. "I mean we have a good group of friends, both boys and girls and we all get along well together," he says. "We swim, go to malls, go to the gym, see films, and study together. All the normal student things," he tells us.
And then clarifies, "This only happens when I'm not filming or not going for tuitions which really take most of my time these days, and when I'm not spending time with my Mom and Dad."
Zain is taller, broader, and more handsome than the chocolate boy youngster we see on the large screen in Hari Puttar. How come?
Zain explains, "The completion of the film was delayed by a year. And I acted in the film when I was in the 8th standard."
The film also stars actress Sarika (whom Zain affectionately refers to as Sarika Aunty), Jackie Shroff, and Lilette Dubey. "It was wonderful working with senior actors. I learned a lot from them all and I especially enjoyed working with Sarika Aunty," he says and adds, "Jackie is also a lot of fun on the sets."
He continues, "The movie Hari Puttar is being compared to Hollywood film, Home Alone, but it is a completely different concept as there are two children as opposed to one and the film is partially animated. It also has the Bollywood masala which makes it loads of fun," he laughs. The film is slated for a worldwide release September 26th and Zain hopes to grab the hearts of female fans abroad. "I think the film is universal in its appeal. It's a family movie and I think youngsters anywhere in world especially of Indian origin will find it be loads of fun."
Currently, Zain can be found on location filming for Ken Ghosh's (Ishq Vishq Pyar Vyar) next film. A musical, which stars hunky Shahid Kapoor and lustrous Jiah Khan (remember her role opposite the Big B Nishabd?). "This film is a new challenge for me as I am not a natural dancer and I have to play a dancing student of Shahid's in the film," he explains. "I've been training for the past couple of months and hopefully the musical will be well received."
