Falguni and Shane Peacock: Go West!
Shane and Falguni Peacock are ready to launch their fall-winter collection at the Los Angeles Fashion Week. The line is primarily black, white and grey coupled with some striking colours. The collection will have jackets, long gowns and dresses to suit international tastes.
The Peacock label has been appreciated by the younger generation, and it has created a ripple among those looking to have a more modern, global dress appeal. Over the last few years, the designer duo has attracted orders from international buyers as well.
We spoke to the duo about the collection they are taking to LA and their future plans.
What is your collection like for the LA Fashion Week? |
The entire feel is autumn-winter, evening-wear. The clothes are classy, sexy and have a gamut of feelings. The collection is subtle with greys and hints of shocking pink, orange and turquoise blue.
What do you expect after you showcase you collection there? |
We always try to put in our best. We have never expected results. Because this is the first time we are taking our collection to LA Fashion Week, it will be difficult. When you are new to a place, it takes time to settle down, especially in the US. So we will try our best.

What kind of response does Indian fashion generally receive abroad? |
Indian fashion is moving at a fast pace. We are receiving a lot of response from stores and buyers abroad and we are getting recognition by other magazines and newspapers.
What are your plans for the year? |
In the near future we have LA and the India Fashion Week and we might be showcasing at Miami later in the year. We are also opening a flagship store in Dubai. We should launch it by the end of March or April.
You also do club-wear... |
Not club-wear, but we do evening-wear. Our look and feel is very classy, edgy and we always try to make garments that people can recognize from a distance as ours. Clothes should primarily have good cuts and styles.
Is the Indian market ready for evening-wear? |
Evening-wear is picking up like anything in India. Women who used to think of wearing salwaar-kameez to parties are now wearing dresses and shorter clothes. The entire look of India is changing and people are aware of this change.

What do you recommend for our brides doing their trousseau this year? |
Your trousseau should always be wearable. It should be something that you would want to wear after five years also. It should be classic but the cuts should be modern in style. For instance, if your lehenga is very traditional, you can't wear it later. But if it is a classic piece, traditional and modern, then you can wear it a few years later as well.
We use embroidery and embellishment with the whole three-dimensional, Victorian look. But you would love to wear it even after a couple of years.
