Celina Jaitley: Dare To Bare Actress
|
"I've played a non-glamorous role in Golmaal Returns" - Celina Jaitley
Dare to bare actress Celina Jaitley now believes that no actress can stay long in the industry only by revealing skin shows. So the lady is now looking to do films that will establish her as an actress to reckon with. Celina is sure that when people see her forthcoming films they will say that there is no other actress better than her. Perhaps this explains why Celina has played a non-glamorous role in Golmaal Returns (produced by Shri AshtaVinayak and directed by Rohit Shetty).
Excerpts from an interview with Celina Jaitley...
What role do you play in Golmaal Returns?
In this movie I have played a deglamourised role. I play the character of a South Indian Brahmin girl, Mira Nair, who is in love with a Maharashtrian boy (Shreyas Talpade). Mira Nair comes from an extremely orthodox and middle class family. This is the first time people will see me wearing salwar kurtas, South Indian saris and jeans.
So now you only want to do non-glamorous roles?
I've not defined any boundaries for myself. I want to do all kinds of roles. Being a glamorous actress does not mean that I lack acting talent. I've proved myself in all kinds of roles.
What preparations did you make to play Mira Nair?
Half the preparations were taken care of by my getup alone. Other than that, the Director and cameramen on the sets were extremely helpful. Actually, last Diwali, on Dhanteras, I had gone to some event dressed in a yellow salwar kameez. The picture was published in the newspaper and when Director Rohit Shetty saw that picture he felt I was suited to play Mira Nair. He called me and then to add a touch of South India, he coloured my eyes black. Other than that, there was not much preparation required.
How come you are nowhere on the PR posters and hoardings of Golmaal Returns?
My job is to shoot for the movie. To give life to the character with my skills. My job does not include getting the promotional hoardings and posters ready. This is the producer's job. Any producer thinks about the best plan for his movie and then works accordingly.
How was the experience?
Very good. We all had a great time. The movie has been shot in Goa and Thailand. During the shoot everyone fooled around a lot. We laughed a lot.
Who teased you the most during the shooting of Golmaal Returns?
Rohit Shetty! One day he set a mad dog after me and another he scared us all in the hotel by playing a Ghost!
What was it like working with Kareena Kapoor?
Nice. However, I don't have any scenes with Kareena so there was not much interaction between us.
This is your first movie with Shri Ashtavinayak. What did you think of them as Producers?
I worked with all the Production Houses. Shri Ashtavinayak is one of the best. I consider myself lucky that I got a chance to work with them. They know how to produce a good film.
Sharman Joshi starred in Golmaal, but Shreyas Talpade has replaced him in Golmaal Returns. Won't viewers miss him?
I don't think so. Once Shreyas is on screen, I don't think anyone will think of Sharman. Shreyas is an excellent actor. He has already proved his mettle before in movies like 'Dor' and 'Iqbal'. He's a versatile actor and can play any character convincingly.
Why do we always see you in multi-starrer movies only?
What's wrong with that? In today's date, name any star that doesn't do multi-star movies. Currently, it is mostly multi-starrers only that are successful. The viewers like multi-starrers. Viewers want a good storyline backed by good performances from many stars. So I have no reservations doing multi-starrers.
Do you enjoy doing comedies?
Honestly speaking, I am much more at peace when I see people laughing. Perhaps this is also why I don't do serious movies. However, I have not sworn off serious films. Whenever I get a good script I will definitely consider it.
What do you feel about your career graph thus far?
My career has been successful. I'm earning well and I have a huge fan following. I'm doing good work. What more could I ask for?
Any particular character that you want to play?
I come from an Army background. So, I've always wanted to play the role of an Army officer or a Police officer.
Which are your forthcoming movies?
Many. These days I am shooting for two movies with Mukta Arts - 'Paying Guest' and 'Hello Darling'. I'm also doing 'Run Bhola Run' with Shri Ashtavinayak in which I've replaced Tanushree Datta. I'm doing Tingmashu Dhuliya's 'Showman' and Aditya Dutta's 'Chai Garam'.
