Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week

Is Delhi Going To Be The Next Paris?

Carol Gracias True, Indian fashion is going more global than ever. Last year there were buyers from large international fashion stores like Bloomingdales and Saks Fifth Avenue. Not so much this time round.

But three fashion designers Manish Arora, Anamika Khanna and Rajesh Pratap Singh are gearing to participate at the Paris Fashion Week. Some like Ritu Beri and Varun Bahl have proven themselves at international fashion weeks in the past. We asked the celebrities if India is catching up with the world's fashion capital on the fashion scene. So, how far is Paris anyway?

Ashima-Leena:
We are already catching up. They had a head start unlike us so it was a lot easier for them but we are almost there.

Meher Bhasin: I think it's a long way to go both for models and designers. We need to be authentic and creative to catch up with Paris.

Carol Gracias: I think we are gearing up to match international fashion. We are no less. We have our own niche and our own USPs. And a lot of Indian designers are going international. They are presenting their collections in international fashion weeks; there are designers like Manish Arora and Ashish Soni.

Neha Kapoor: Indian fashion is in its full form right now, and we are making our own mark in the international arena. We have reached their level and it is evident from the fact that Vogue has come to cover the fashion week this time and loads of Indian designers are going international.

Rina Dhaka: You can't really compare the two. But yes, product wise we are already there. We have carved out a niche for ourselves. All we need is a little more corporatisation.

Pooja Mishra: We have got a lot of catching up to do, but say 2 years.
