Carol Gracias - Queen Of The Ramp
|
She is perhaps India's most talked about model today. She shot in infamy when she flashed the world on the ramp due to a wardrobe malfunction.
But she became a household name when she made it to the final three in the hugely popular reality show - Big Boss.
We spoke to queen-of-the-ramp Carol Gracias on the fashion week and the business of fashion.
Who is your favourite Indian designer?
I have loads of favourite designers. It would be actually tough to name one. It depends on the kind of wear and my mood. Personally my favourite is Rajesh Pratap Singh.
Who is the one international designer you would love to walk the ramp for?
Considering the fact that he is retiring, I guess I would love to walk the ramp for Valentino.
Which Indian designer do you think symbolises contemporary Indian fashion?
A contemporary Indian designer needs to be someone who has the best of both worlds. It needs to be contemporary but have Indian ethics speaking through his designs. I think Rohit Bal and Tarun Tahiliani are good at fusions.

Do frequent fashion weeks get tiring? And with the Wills and Lakme fashion shows splitting, does that hamper your career?
No, this time the shows are well spaced out and I think more fashion weeks mean more business. It does get a bit hectic but it's good for us at the end of the day.
Where do you think India stands in the international arena? Are we up to their level?
I think we are gearing up to match international fashion. We are no less; we have our own niche and our own USPs. And a lot of Indian designers are going international. They are presenting their collections at international fashion weeks. There are designers like Manish Arora, Ashish Soni, etc.
With a lot of celebrities walking the ramp, do you take it as a threat?
No. I guess getting Bollywood stars is a designer's individual choice, if they want to add more glamour to their show. But stars are good at their job and we are good at ours. They can't take our place.
