Nigaar Z Khan
"I debuted with a negative role (Sheetal in Lipstick) but at that time I did not give much importance to the grey shades of the character. Actually I was quiet satisfied with my role because it was challenging and it brought me recognition as a good actor. I do not categorise roles into positive and negative roles because all positive characters have some negative traits while all negative characters have some positive aspects. In fact till now I have enacted both positive (in Ayushmaan) and negative (in India Calling, Lipstick, Hum 2 Hai Na) characters, but negative characters give me more satisfaction as an actor.
However, it is a different matter all together that with time people start identifying your real and reel self. I have come across many such weird responses. Once an old man from our housing society came up to me with much angst and said that someday he would like to strangle me for portraying the kind of wicked roles that I play onscreen!! Such responses do not bow me down because there has been another set of fans who keep sending me fan mails. Some people, who know me as a person, often wonder aloud "You are such a sweet girl...why do you play such snobbish roles!"
When not working I spend my time at home, helping my mom, cleaning my room and my clothes. I love to go out with friends, catch up with some movies, surf the Net and pamper my cat. Though right now I'm not involved with any NGOs, I would love to work for some homeless kids and aged parents.
On Women's Day I would like to salute my mom. I would like to thank her for being such a wonderful mother and treating us sisters as sons, not as daughters. I think young women of today have overcome all the difficulties they used to face in earlier days. They are educated and independent but at the same time they call for their own troubles because they want to achieve too much too soon. Youth today is influenced too soon. My word for them would be - They should not try to achieve too many things at the same time."
