Ayaan Ahmad: From Call Center To Movie Star
|
It's raining men....hallelujah ! This seems to be the year of introductions with Bollywood's latest releases rocking with a new star cast of heroes vaulting either from anonymity to the silver screen or from television.
Amir Khan's nephew Imran Khan wowed both critics and audiences a like with his natural, debonair and slightly quirky character in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na ushering perhaps the start of another era of chocolate-boy heroes. Released on the same weekend, Harman Baweja's, Love Story 2050 didn't win over critics but nevertheless delighted audiences with his performance of a reincarnated lover trying to win his lady love (Priyanka Chopra) from a past life. Though both essayed different characters on screen, off-screen both actors were launched by their respective families.
The latest in line to melt young girls' hearts and to be launched by his family is Director, Tanvir Ahmad's son Ayaan Ahmad. ''I actually didn't want to be an actor....I wanted to be a director,'' admits Ayaan who makes his debut in the film, Ada, starring Nauheed Cyrusi, Rahul Roy and Ayesha Julka. What makes this film interesting is the atypical gangster love story and it's sound-track with music by award winning Composer, AR Rehman, (six years in the making) and playback by Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik.
Shaaditimes caught up with Ayaan on the eve of his film, Ada's release.
Upon meeting Ayaan Ahmad you realize you're not meeting your stereo-typical hero. Thoughtful, soft-spoken, and absolutely candid Ayaan could be your neighbor, your son, your brother, your friend.
''I wouldn't call myself a stereo-typical hero,'' starts Ayaan. ''Both on and off-screen,'' he laughs then clarifies, ''I am a simple, chilled-out type of guy. I love watching movies and prefer staying away from large crowds.''
The character he plays in Ada is the opposite of what he is in real life. "He is an angry young man," says Ayaan. "It's an unconventional love story that looks at values and family... the lifestyle shared by his parents." The movie was filmed at various locales in Mumbai and signposts the revival of Urdu lyricism in story-telling and in its soundtrack's lyrics. "We are extremely excited about the music. AR Rehman started composing songs earlier than 2004 for the film and so we have titled it a 'musical journey by AR Rehman'."
What was it like working with the maestro? "Beyond words," chimes in older brother Producer of Ada, Kazaan Ahmad, and both brothers nod in agreement. "He is absolutely wonderful and he's created magic with this sound-track," says Ayaan "I don't need to say anything else. The music will touch your heart with its own melodious strength."
When Ayaan is not in front of the camera you can find him on the football field. "I love soccer," he admits. Or indulging in his favorite food - Biriyani. Unlike his character in the movie he is single, and despite the adage opposites make ideal mates he is looking for someone to complement his lifestyle, his ideals, and most importantly his family.
