Resonance - By Ashima & Leena
|
Before the show started rolling, you could hear thousands of birds chirping amidst echoes of the jungle. The ramp was beautifully adorned with hundreds of beautiful paper birds (hanging from the ceiling).
You could sense that you are here for something different and when Fleur Xavier walked the ramp in a beautiful flowing white palette dress, Ashima and Leena's show at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week resonated.
The theme for their Spring-Summer '08 collection was Resonance. As the show progressed, the colours went from light to darker shades. The creams went on to grow into reds and blacks and an incredible yet inspiring contrast was created between the traditional and the modern, defining the current flavour of fashion.
They had a lot of flowing dresses along with rhythmic drapes, flowing blouses with embellished and cinched belts, kimonos and floral prints.

How was your show?
Ashima-Leena: It was good; but then there is always scope for improvement, so that you can do better the next time.
What was your inspiration?
A-L: The theme Resonance comes from Central Asia, the silk route, and echoes with the past.
What according to you are the colours for Spring-Summer '08?
A-L: We used a lot of pastels, whites, creams, black and whites and deep colours like red and black for the evening.
What kind of fabrics did you use?
A-L: Chiffons, georgette, lose flowing fabrics.
What do you have to say about the robberies and thefts in the fashion industry?
A-L: It's scary. It could be someone who wants to copy the designs of famous designers.
What kind of business are you looking at here?
A-L: We are looking for various international buyers and expecting a lot of trade from the Gulf market.
What is the USP of your clothes?
A-L: They are absolutely wearable, all women can wear them. We make clothes that are wearable because fashion is not only for selected people. You don't have to be in a different segment to wear our clothes.
When do you think India would catch up with Paris on the fashion scene?
A-L: We are already catching up. They had a head start unlike us so it was a lot easier for them but we are almost there.
You guys have been together since the beginning. What keeps the chemistry going?
A-L: It's for love and togetherness that we have been working together for more than 14 years. We have well defined roles. I'm the business head and Ashima is the creative head. Also, we are showcasing for the 10th time and it's also our 10th anniversary.
