Abhijeet Khanna's Risa - A Double Debut
|
Radhika and Amit Rastogi spotted this NIFT alumnus. After which, Abhijeet Khanna launched his brand Risa in December 2006. This year Risa gets a double debut with the Delhi Fashion Week and the soon-to-be London Fashion Week.
With hand embroidery and block prints, Abhijeet's collection reflected Indian influences in terms of technique. At the same time they exuded a global appeal with their silhouettes and palette.
Abhijeet says the woman he designs for has soft flowing hair that cascades down or is tied loose and smells of spices and roses and tulips. "She's fair in the sun, glows in the dark; she loves summer, winter and a dance in the monsoons." We spoke to the designer of romance:
How was your show?
It was great. People liked it. I am showing the same collection in London next week. It was quite exciting here. I hope it works well. I have crafted and choreographed it differently.
What are the colours for Spring-Summer '08?
Pinks, beautiful yellows, ivys, pink to dark purple and deep red. So it's a colourful collection in a subtle way.
What kind of fabrics you have used in your collection?
Indian silk and net.
Tell us something about your collection?
It is a colourful collection and I have used western silhouettes and tresses with Indian embroidery. So my collection is forward in its appeal.
What is the inspiration behind your collection?
There is no one inspiration. I have tried to amalgamate a lot of ideas, which I see around. The philosophy to the show was fast forward.
What kind of trade are you looking at?
Both domestic and international.
Who is your idol in the fashion industry?
Every designer has a different style but otherwise I like Manish Arora's work.
If you had one international model to walk for you who would it be?
Sapna Kumar. Well she's not international but I like her a lot.
You have worked with Manish Arora earlier. How does it feel to have an independent show?
It's great. And if Manish were here he would have been very happy. He is in London right now.
How do you feel about the competition?
I don't feel anything because it's not about competition. It's about letting people know about your work.
Where do you see yourself five years down the line?
It's a long time. I guess I would be here only designing clothes.
